Finding Your Best Fit School Spotlight on Lehigh

These Are a Few of Our Favorite Things... Last week we shared some of our favorite college admissions resources. Another great resource to use is your family and friends. While it is important to form your own opinions and ultimately choose the school that is the best academic and social fit for you, family and friends who have attended one of the colleges on your list can certainly provide unique insights and tips. With that in mind, we've asked the team to share some of the favorite things about the college they attended. Hopefully these accounts will give you some things to keep in mind as you research to find your own best fit schools, and maybe one of our alma maters will be a great fit for you too! This week a member of our team tells us about her experience at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania: One of my favorite memories of Lehigh is the week before the Lehigh vs. Lafayette football game. While â€Å"The Rivalry†, the most-played match up in college football history, is a thrilling event itself, the week, and even hours leading up to the game, are equally as exciting! With events such as Bed Races and the Turkey Trot, â€Å"Lehigh-Lafayette Spirit Week† offers a way for every student to get involved and truly feel like a member of the campus community. Lehigh pride is felt and viewed all over campus from decorated cars and fraternity houses to Mountain Hawk temporary tattoos adorning the faces of the dining staff. On Tuesday you can find your statistics professor giving a lecture designed around the passing yards of previous games and on Wednesday you can watch your chemistry teacher perform an experiment with brown-dyed liquids. On Thursday there’s a chance the Marching97 may play an impromptu fight song in your English class and on Friday night you m ay even spot President Gast at the bonfire celebration!Each year the game location alternates between Lehigh and Lafayette, located only 18 miles apart. While each student body is loyal to their respective team, there is a certain excitement that comes with sharing your campus for one afternoon. I remember freshman year when Lafayette students flooded onto the South Mountain, it felt less like an enemy intrusion and more like our student body was doubling in size. We were no longer a small school cheering for our AA football team, but a united group participating in history. Now, almost five years later, I still do my best to make it back to campus for this wonderful celebration. This November is no different and I plan to head back to Bethlehem for the 147th showdown on November 19th!Insider tip: Get Involved! I think a main reason this week stands out as my favorite is because I was actively participating in a variety of events. I ran in the Turkey Trot, I wrote an article about t he game (I was a Sports Editor for The Brown and White newspaper!), and I chanted â€Å"L-U† with classmates when walking around campus, even when it felt silly. While the Lehigh-Lafayette football game was enjoyable as a spectator, you certainly don’t want to treat your overall college experience the same way. Get off the sidelines and get in the game!
